BECOMING AN AUTISTIC SCHOLAR
Tabla de contenido
BECOMING AN AUTISTIC SCHOLAR is a novella about obtaining a PhD overseas.
How does the experience of pursuing a doctorate abroad intertwine with the discovery of one’s own neurodivergence? Through a series of interconnected stories, this book narrates the journey of a Chilean student and his wife to Barcelona, where he pursues a doctorate in Computer Science while she seeks her own path.
Like in the Japanese role-playing video games that the protagonist loves so much, the adventure begins in an unknown city, without possessions and with the challenge of learning the rules of a new world. Between algorithms and code, between tango and Street Fighter, between academic life and personal loss, the narrative explores universal themes such as identity, love, friendship, and grief.
A decade after these events, the author receives a diagnosis that gives new meaning to his entire experience: he is autistic. This revelation transforms the book into something more than academic memoirs - it is the testimony of how neurodivergence shapes our way of perceiving the world and relating to others.
Written with the precision of a scientist and the sensitivity of an attentive observer, this book is an invitation to reflect on how our cognitive differences enrich the human experience.
